Overview 

All artists applying for Godiva Calling must submit two track submissions as part of their application. Submissions must include audio or video examples of your music to allow the shortlisting panel to assess your suitability for the finals. 

Music entries should reflect your current performance style and although live recordings are preferred, studio or track recordings are also accepted.  

Please ensure: 

  • Audio is clear and audible. 

  • Each submitted track is a maximum of 6 minutes in length. 

  • Exception: DJ and Dance category submissions may be up to 10 minutes maximum. 

 

Files accepted 

For links: 

  • YouTube, Spotify, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox links are accepted  

  • Ensure links are public or accessible (no permission requests required)  

  • Please double check the links are working 

 

For file uploads: 

  • Accepted formats: MP3, WAV, MP4, MOV  

Where possible please avoid sending large files via email attachments unless requested. 

 

Content guidelines  

Godiva Calling is part of a family friendly festival environment, and submitted material must be suitable for performance in front of audiences that may include children. 

We will not accept music containing: 

  • Profanity or explicit language 

  • Discriminatory, hateful or abusive content 

  • Harmful, threatening or violent material 

  • Content that promotes harassment or intolerance 

  • Sexually explicit content 

  • Material likely to breach safeguarding expectations for family audiences 

Submissions must align with Coventry City Council (CCC) values. 

 

DJ and Dance Category  

Applicants entering the DJ and Dance category must submit a DJ set or mixing demonstration. 

Preferred examples include: 

  • SoundCloud mix 

  • YouTube mix 

  • Video of live mixing 

  • Social media mix videos 

  • Recorded DJ performance sets 

Maximum length: 10 minutes 

 

Submissions should demonstrate: 

  • Mixing ability 

  • Track selection 

  • Transitions 

  • Performance style 

  • Suitability for a live festival audience 

 

Under 18s Category 

Applicants under the age of 18 must have guardian or parent approval. Failure to provide guardian approval may result in the application being ineligible. 

 

Assessment process 

All entries will be assessed by a diverse panel of three judges from a music background. You will be marked on three key areas: 

  1. Musical Ability 

  1. Originality 

  1. Audience Impact 

 

Data protection and privacy 

Personal data and submitted files will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, and Coventry City Council data handling procedures. 

Your personal data may be used to: 

  • Process your application 

  • Contact you regarding your submission 

  • Manage finalist selection and event participation
