DjMikey Dee
DjMikey Dee started in sound system when he was a”box boy” with Jah Tubbys sound ( London ) and then went on to be a founder member of International Roots & Dub sound “Aba- Shanti-I” in the early 90s…He has been on the music scene in Coventry for over 40yrs. Firstly as a music promoter in the city from the mid 80s to mid 90s, at various venues.
When DJs failed to arrive at an event in 1995 he took the decision to go home and bring his own collection of records & cds and play to the people. The night was successful and so started his 30yr career as a DJ specialising in Reggae, RnB, Hip Hop, UKG & Dancehall.
In 2000 he started broadcasting on Radio..firstly Flava Fm and then Sting Fm in Birmingham. 2011-2014 he did the breakfast show on Hillz Fm before launching his own community station in Coventry Arawakradio.com [https://url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/nruDCVm45IDnlJgIzh6hE__IR?domain=arawakradio.com] in 2015-Present. He has helped to launch up and coming young DJs & MCs in the city through radio broadcasting.
A community leader who is the chairman of ACT ( Arawak community trust ) who put on events in the city since 2011 inc Family fundays, Windrush events…City of culture ( 2021 ) and more recently “Reggae Fever” in memorial park 2024.
