Coventry Godiva Festival has confirmed that British rock band, The Darkness, will be taking its Sunday headline slot on 9 July.

The Darkness are most well-known for their hit song, “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”, which peaked at number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album ’Permission To Land' went straight to number two upon release in 2003 and sold 1.5m copies in the UK.

It’s also expected that the band will release their fifth studio album this year.

The Darkness follow on from last year’s Scouting For Girls, who headlined Sunday’s stage in 2016, and event organisers are confident that 2017’s offer so far will be equally, if not more, popular.

Cllr Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member for Events, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to announce our first headline act for 2017 as The Darkness, who will play on Sunday afternoon.”

“We’re working hard to help secure more bands and programme in our other two headline slots, so we’ll be making more announcements as soon as we can.”

Coventry Godiva Festival, which remains the UK’s biggest free family music festival, will take place on 7-9 July in the War Memorial Park in Coventry.
