Coventry Godiva Festival has confirmed that the legendary rock band The Stranglers will take Friday night’s headline slot for this year’s festival.
The Stranglers’ appearance on Friday 7 July will follow a string of tour dates in March for the band which leads up to their headline slot at Godiva Festival in the summer.
The Stranglers were recognised as one of the leading bands in the UK Punk movement in the late 70s and are now well-established as one of country’s leading live acts. The band have enjoyed numerous hits and are best known for their singles such as ‘Golden Brown’, ‘Peaches’, ‘Something Better Change’ and, of course, the title track ‘No More Heroes’ from the album of the same name.
Additionally, the band is also preparing a re-release of their entire Stranglers studio album catalogue for the period 1977-82.
JJ Burnel of the Stranglers said: “The Stranglers are looking forward to parading naked at the Godiva Festival in July.”
The Stranglers follow on from last year’s Friday headliner, The Boomtown Rats, and event organisers are confident that the band will follow a long line of popular Friday night acts.
Councillor Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member for Events, said: “I’m confident this year will be another great year for Godiva Festival and will emphasise the fact that Coventry is a place where fantastic events are happening, which helps promote the city, brings people together and generates visits to the city over the weekend.“
With both Friday and Sunday’s headliners now announced, festival organisers are busy looking to add a host of other top names, including Saturday’s headliner and acts to headline the Rock Tent on the Friday night.
Coventry Godiva Festival, which remains the UK’s biggest free family music festival, will take place on 7-9 July in the War Memorial Park in Coventry.
