Blood Red Shoes

Blood Red Shoes

Performing on: Saturday 1 September

Blood Red Shoes features Laura-Mary Carter (vocals/guitar) and Steven Ansell (drums/vocals), two enthusiastic punk-inspired brawlers who came together in late 2004 upon the demise of their previous bands.

With one song in tow, the duo landed a gig and Blood Red Shoes were born; the name is a reference to Ginger Rogers, who allegedly had to redo a tap dance scene so many times that her white dancing shoes ended up soaked in blood.

Touring relentlessly since their inception they built up a live following at home and abroad and finally released their debut album Box of Secrets in 2008, picking up fans such as director Edgar Wright who used It's Getting Boring by the Sea in his Hollywood debut Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. This was followed by the heavier Fire Like This in 2010 which saw them break into daytime Radio 1 in the UK and complete their first full tour of the USA. 2012 brought the more introspective In Time to Voices which showcased a willingness to experiment outside of the confines of a typical rock duo, then followed up in 2013 with the Water EP, produced by John Congleton, and again in 2014 with the self-produced Blood Red Shoes, their hardest-edged album to date.

In 2017 the band continued their evolution by moving away from their fuzz rock roots and towards an electronic-inspired, sleeker sound showcased in one-off singles Eye To Eye and Bangsar (a song about a fateful night in a bar in Kuala Lumpur).
